Lyric of the Week: SO SICK

We’re so damn liberal

(It’s so damn sick)

To the point of being criminal

(It’s so damn sick)

We bankroll our enemies

(It’s so damn sick)

We do it obsessively

(It’s so damn sick)

We bend over so far back

(It’s so damn sick)

Till our collective spine will crack

(It’s so damn sick)

And then we wonder why we’re blind

(It’s so damn sick)

When it comes back to bite our behind

(It’s so damn sick)

CHORUS

It’s so damn sick, I tell you

Sick sick sick.

We treat them like royalty

(It’s all so sick)

Hoping to buy their loyalty

(It’s all so sick)

But they’re loyal to themselves

(It’s all so sick)

And we’re just infidels

(It’s all so sick)

Why can’t we just be blunt

(It’s all so sick)

And stick up for ourselves for once

(It’s all so sick)

Ah, but if we did it

(It’s all so sick)

The world would call us bigots

(It’s all so sick)

CHORUS

It’s all so sick, I tell you

Sick sick sick.

Did you ever hear the story of the talking cat?

He stood up on his hind legs and wore a coat and hat.

He worked as a butler in a rich man’s manor

Ever the paragon of elegance and refined manners.

At the dinner party everyone was impressed

To see this fine feline serving the guests

But then a mouse happened to skitter by

All the refined manners went bye-bye.

The serving tray crashed

The cat’s outfit got trashed

And as he went careening

All the guests ran, screaming

So now you see, no matter what

Whether you can ever admit it or not

A cat will always remain a cat

Make whatever you will of that.

I am not ashamed to admit it

I do not understand my nation

So clever in business, so keen in science

And so incredibly inept at self-preservation.

It’s such a sick mystery

(It’s all so sick)

That throughout our history

(It’s all so sick)

We want our killers to love us

(It’s all so sick)

We want them to think well of us

(It’s all so sick)

Why do we never learn

(It’s so damn sick)

We light the fire, then get burned

(It’s so damn sick)

No matter what we do

(It’s so damn sick)

To them we’re just dirty Jews

(It’s so damn sick)

CHORUS

It’s all so sick, I tell you

Sick sick sick

It’s so damn sick, I tell you

Sick sick sick.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Exodus 22:17. Look it up.

I am not a political songwriter. But every now and then something in the political realm irks me so much that I have no other way to express it than with a song or a lyric. This is one of those times.

I actually wrote this song in the aftermath of 9-11 and a rash of suicide bombings in Israel. The reaction to these horrific attacks, rather than to recognize the enemy and call it by its true name, was to protect and defend the attackers. Not just to build a fence around people who may be of the same ethnic group that produced the attackers, but in many cases the attackers themselves.

No group is better than defending and protecting its enemies than my own group—the Jewish people. The majority of my people, at least in the United States, have essentially jettisoned their Mosaic heritage and replaced it with a particular type of self-denying ultraliberalism, painting it with a patina of faux Judaism and calling it by the name of tikkun olam (repairing of the world)—an idea never actually mentioned anywhere in the Torah itself. In the absence of actual Torah their innate sense of justice is misguided, and in the end, by being merciful to the cruel, they end up cruel to the merciful, just as the Talmud warns.

The latest manifestation of this illness is the reaction of these misguided Jews to the words and deeds of Linda Sarsour (Google her if somehow you haven't heard of her—I don't want to pollute my blog with too much to say about her, since her pronouncements and actions speak for themselves). Rather than calling her out for the hater and fraud she actually is, our misguided Jews rally around her and support her. They whitewash all her anti-Israel venom, rationalizing by saying "it's all right to criticize Israeli policies, she doesn't really hate Jews, blah blah blah." I do not understand this pathological need for these spineless Jews to love their enemy, thinking that by showering her with all their love, she will come to love them in return. I'd hate to think that these Jews actually sympathize with what she really thinks ... but then again, I don't know what to think anymore.

Like I say in this song, it's all so sick. I hope we find the cure for this illness soon, because it really has the potential to become deadly.
