The streets are filled with soot and dust
The sky has been stained a wispy rust
The good are filled with shock and disgust
The evil revel and rejoice in their bloodlust
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
The city is awash in grief and tears
The country is swept by waves of fear
The sense of security has disappeared
What was over there is now right here
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
The skyline has been brought asunder
Plunged into a hell of smoke and thunder
The pictures and images are beyond all wonder
The lost are way too many to number
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
The pillars that once held up the sky
The immortals that could never die
Laid low by terror let loose on high
We stand here in disbelief and cry
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
But we shall heal and we shall mend
We shall bring the blackhearted tyranny to its end
We shall double one hundred and ten
We shall rise to rebuild again
And the mighty shall not fall again
The mighty shall never fall—amen.

In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Izzy Kieffer and I had recorded several songs about the tragedy. One of them, "The September Cloud," was released on our first album as REALITY SHOCK. Several more were left off, and we thought at the time that we might include one or more of them on a subsequent album project. Alas, REALITY SHOCK's second album never came to be; both Izzy and I went on to work on our own respective projects, each of us helping the other out during the recording process. Soon Izzy was hard at work on his own second album, and he did some more work on this one, which was originally titled "Lamentation, Sept. 11, 2001," adding vocals and guitar, and giving it an initial mix. Unfortunately it was left off that album too.
But there was no reason to keep it under wraps indefinitely, so this year we chose to make it public. Here it is, with a title change. We remember the tragic events of September 11, honor the memory of all those who were lost and who lost loved ones, and declare that the mighty shall never fall again.
