I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
When all my crazy dreams
Get torn apart at the seams
I can’t get protection
When I’m playing in a band
And no one can understand
I can’t get protection
When the girl I don’t wanna meet
Comes walking up the street
I just wanna duck in an alley and hide away
She sees me and gives a smile
But she just cramps my style
But there’s nowhere to run and she won’t get out of my way
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
I can’t get protection
When I’m trying not to kiss her
And you know I can’t resist her
I can’t get protection
When I’m stuck with one line
And I can’t make it rhyme
I can’t get protection
When I’m feeling pathetic
And no one’s sympathetic
I’m just like a dog in a trap letting out a wild yelp
When I get really nervous
My brain needs some service
‘Cause anyone singing the blues is in a deep pit yelling for help
I can’t get protection
When the summer’s hot and lazy
And the heat drives me crazy
I can’t get protection
When my fever gets higher and higher
And I’m burnin’ like a fire
I can’t get protection
(Can’t get) Unwanted advances!
(Can’t get)
Pretentious romances!
(Can’t get) Another night in her arms ...
(Can’t get) ... suckered again by her charms!
(Can’t get) She captures me without warning!
(Can’t get) I hate myself in the morning!
(Can’t get) From this love and affection ...
(Can’t get) ... I need some protection!

Every guy, at some point, has a Girlfriend From Hell™. I can go on and on about mine, but ... why relive all that? Suffice it to say that the description given in this song suits her well.
Late one night while on guard duty during the second half of my army service in Israel, I thought of the last time I had fallen for her charms, such as they were. I vowed never to let that happen again and wrote this song. Several years later, back in the USA, I added it to my band's setlist and it often became the set closer whenever we performed. My musical partner Izzy Kieffer and I recorded it for our album by REALITY SHOCK, There's A Voice, released 2002. I still do pretty well with it when I play it solo as well.
